Is modern portfolio theory all it's cracked up to be? If historical hindsight doesn't work for forecasting future returns, why should we use it to build portfolios? Maybe the definition of risk is wrong. Maybe diversification is illusory. Maybe we took Markowitz's graduate paper just a little too far.
