Things to Do in Seattle

  1. Visit Pike Place Market: This outdoor market is one of Seattle's most popular attractions. Taking up nine acres, you can find vendors selling fresh produce and food, fish, flowers, clothes, art and more. You can also visit the original Starbucks, built in 1977. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to check out as well. The market is open from 9am-5pm (restaurants are open later) and is located on Pike St. and 1st Ave.
  2. Chihuly Garden and Glass: This museum honoring the career of Dave Chihuly features a Glasshouse full of Chihuly's beautiful glasswork. The exhibition continues outside where glass and garden meet with glass pieces integrated into the surrounding nature. The museum is open Monday-Thursday from 10:00am-10:00pm and from 10:00am-11:00pm Friday-Sunday. Tickets for adults cost $21 and are $14 for children ages 4-12.
  3. Seattle Space Needle: The place to go to a get a view of Seattle. Take a 41 second ride up 520 feet to reach the observation deck. From there you can overlook downtown Seattle, Olympic and Cascade Mountains, and surrounding islands. The observation deck is open from 8:00am-12:00am and tickets start at $10. It is located on Broad St. and 4th Avenue North.
  4. Seattle Aquarium: Want to visit some aquatic animals? Head over to the Seattle Aquarium where you can see otters, seals, birds, fish and much more. The aquarium is open from 9:30am-5:00pm and is located on Alaskan Way, Pier 59. Tickets for adults cost $21.95 and children under 14 can visit for $14.95. (Children under 3 are free). You can also get a combo ticket to visit the aquarium and also take a ride on the Argosy Harbor Cruise.
  5. Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum: This unique, non-profit museum focuses on contemporary popular culture. Founded by Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen, the museum houses exhibits and interactive activity stations. Past exhibits have focused on Jimmy Hendrix, Nirvana, horror films, Legos, and fantasy stories to name a few. Tickets for adults are $18 and tickets for children under 17 are $16. The museum is open daily from 10:00am-7:00pm and is located on 5th Avenue North.
  6. Pacific Science Center: For those more interested in science, Seattle is the home of the Pacific Science Center. The museum was originally opened in 1962 when Seattle hosted the World's Fair. The museum includes two IMAX theaters, a planetarium, a butterfly house, a laser dome theater, and many hands-on science activities. The museum is open from 10:00am to 6:00pm and tickets range from $18.00-$26.00. The museum is located on 2nd Avenue North.
  7. Seattle Art Museum: For those looking to see art from around the world, the Seattle Art Museum is a must. The main museum is located downtown while another facility featuring sculptures is located at Olympic Park on the waterfront. The museum opened in 1933 and has over 25,000 pieces of art. Past exhibits have focused on the work of Van Hogh as well as artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun. The museum is open on Wednesdays from 10:00-5:00pm, Thursdays from 10:00am-9:00pm, and Friday-Sunday from 10:00am-5:00pm.
  8. Woodland Park Zoo: Located only 10 minutes from downtown Seattle is the Woodland Park Zoo. This zoo is the home to over 1,100 animals including elephants, kangaroos, tigers, lions, giraffes, penguins, owls, reptiles, and many more. The zoo is open daily from 9:30am-6:00pm. Tickets for adults ages 13 and up is $18.75. Tickets for children ages 3-12 are $11.75.
  9. Seattle Symphony: Classical music fans can catch a show at the Seattle Symphony. On September 18, 19, and 20, you see "Masterworks: Dvořák's Seventh Symphony." Tickets are not yet on sale but usually range from $30-$100. The theater is located on University Street in downtown Seattle.
  10. The Museum of Flight: Located at the King County Airport, this museum has over 150 historic air and spacecraft artifacts. You can learn about the planes used in both World Wars, as well as the presidential 707 jet. The museum is open from 10:00am-5:00pm and tickets for adults cost $19.

Check out Seattle's City Pass which gives you admission to five Seattle sights (Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium, Argosy Cruise Harbor Tour, EMP Museum or Woodland Park Zoo, Pacific Science Center or The Museum of Flight) at a discounted rate. An adult city pass booklet costs $64 while a booklet for children ages 4-12 is $44.00.
